NATURE

Fertile fields, wildflowers and lush pasturelands, Flood basins teeming with wildlife. Endangered species of flora and fauna. Awesome mountain vistas and scenic canyons. Backyard fruit and abundant gardens. Blue skies and sunshine seemingly forever. Nature has blessed the San Fernando Valley with all this-- her best and brightest--but she has rocked it, too. Earthquakes are no stranger to the Valley. In 1812 and 1857, the land heaved, many Valley residents recall the 1971 quake and even more know the violent disaster of 1994 firsthand. Mudslides, floods of legend, triple digit heat, and monumental winds are all part of the climate culture that directs life and industry in this great Valley.

As your Museum, we will explore and exhibit nature of our valley and gather the personal stories that relate to the challenges it has presented. We will be part of the greening of the Valley, as we learn to live more environmentally responsible lives to protect our most precious historic treasure—our land.
